Ok, I’ve had enough with small mongooses. Common dwarf mongoose, long-nosed dwarf mongoose, Angolan dwarf mongoose – enough! Give me some big, burly mongooses. On that note, I present: the world’s largest, the white-tailed mongoose (Ichneumia albicauda)!
This bad-ass motherfucker grows to be 5 foot long, and as well as eating deadly cobras for breakfast, it can do that foul-smelling-liquid-from-anal-glands thing too – so it’s deadly at both ends!
This mongoose is of the solitary and nocturnal persuasion, and generally prefers drier environments to the marshes and jungles where you find Friday’s and Saturday’s mongooses. When I say solitary, what I really mean, is that they have their own ranges, but the ranges of different sexes overlap – so there’s like two parallel social structures coexisting.
In conclusion, the white-tailed mongoose is pretty cool, and bigger than my cat.
